Home News ELCA Renewing our commitment to those living with HIV and AIDS
Written by ELCA

December 1 is World AIDS Day. HIV and AIDS are viruses that the United Nations has named the single largest obstacle to global development. Affirmed by the new ELCA HIV and AIDS Strategy, our church has renewed our collective commitment to love, care for and walk with those living with HIV or AIDS and help protect those most at risk of new infection. Take a look at the resources available to your congregation:

  • A newly-released ELCA HIV and AIDS Congregation Action Kit, including worship and educational resources, is available at www.elca.org/aids. These resources can assist you in lifting up this church's response to HIV and AIDS throughout the year. A sample copy of the Action Kit was sent to every congregation in November.
  • In partnership with the ONE Campaign, advocacy offices of the ELCA and the Episcopal Church have developed a tool kit to host a viewing of The Lazarus Effect with discussion and prayerful reflection. The film follows the stories of four people living with HIV whose lives were transformed by gaining access to antiretroviral treatment. Learn more about The Lazarus Effect here.
  • "Living Positive in Defiant Hope" is a 10-minute video that introduces audiences to the ELCA's HIV and AIDS Strategy by visiting ministries in Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Illinois to lift up examples of how Lutherans are responding faithfully to HIV and AIDS.
